Our client, Edwin Shirley Staging, working for the NMEC was requested to build a temporary structure that would house two 2,500 capacity cinemas, one of which would convert into a 3,700 capacity live event venue.
The cinemas were to be fully heated and air conditioned with the acoustic properties of a fully fledged permanent theatre and from this brief the structure known as Skyscape was created.
Alto were given the task of providing two 30 row grandstands incorporating many custom features in order to enhance the overall appearance, give added comfort to the spectator and make the project look, sound and feel like permanent theatres.
The stands included fully carpeted decking and upholstered seat cushions for additional comfort. Mid stand cross aisles, extra width vomitory staircases and access tunnels were introduced into the structure for extra safety egress capacity. |
